5 smartest things WWE Superstars did to trick their opponents

Professional wrestlers are known for their impressive physique and chiseled up muscles. There aren’t many who hold wrestlers in high regard when it comes to their brains. But are they in the right in doing so?

Remember when Vince McMahon convinced Stone Cold Steve Austin that The Undertaker and The Ministry of Darkness had kidnapped Stephanie, and that he needed him to save his daughter? In the end, Vince was revealed as the higher power to everyone’s shock. Although devious, it was incredibly smart on the part of McMahon to trick Austin in such a manner. This isn’t the only instance when Superstars used their brains to trick their foes.

#5 Edge cashes in on a half-conscious John Cena

Edge was destined to become a major star when he won the Money In The Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 21. This was a brand new concept and no one knew what WWE could do with it.

At New Year’s Revolution, John Cena went through hell and defeated 5 Superstars to win the Elimination Chamber match. Suddenly, Mr. McMahon came out and announced that Edge wanted to cash in his MITB contract. To a loud chorus of cheers, Edge made quick work of Cena and won his first WWE Title.

This is one of the most shocking moments in the history of WWE, and it was incredibly smart of Edge to cash in when Cena was practically unable to compete. This move gave Edge the moniker of “The Ultimate Opportunist”.

#4 R-Truth surprises Drake Maverick at his wedding

What would be the best time to catch a wrestler off-guard and take advantage of his unsuspecting nature? A wedding for starters!

Not too long ago, Drake Maverick got married to Renee Michelle, with a bunch of his close friends in attendance at the wedding hall. As he was walking up the aisle, he saw a WWE referee. Before Maverick fully realized what was going on, R-Truth emerged out of nowhere and pinned him to win the 24/7 Title belt.

Maverick screamed in disbelief “At my wedding!”, as Truth fled the scene. The 205 Live GM had previously tricked Truth to win the belt, and there couldn’t have been a better setting for Truth to get it back. Maverick never thought that Truth would do this at his wedding of all occasions, and it made snooping in and winning the belt that much easier for him.

#3 Brock Lesnar has a creative idea to defeat The Big Show

Lesnar suddenly headed backstage, pointing to his head. Soon, he came back driving a forklift of all things! Big Show got distracted by Rey Mysterio, who snuck up on him from behind. After making quick work of the Cruiserweight, Big Show turned, only for Lesnar to launch himself at him.

The Beast carried The Big Show on the forklift and drove it towards the marking line. As soon as the vehicle crossed the line, Brock Lesnar won the match and retained his title.

#2 Bret Hart tricks Goldberg

#2 Bret Hart tricks Goldberg

Goldberg didn’t waste much time and sprinted towards Hart to deliver a thunderous Spear on him. Strangely, Goldberg remained on the mat after the impact, in an unconscious state. Suddenly, Hart stood up and removed his T-shirt. Underneath the garb, Hart had equipped himself with a metal plate, that was bound to his body.

Goldberg had hit him with a lethal Spear, and the move backfired on the heavyweight with equal force. This move was replicated at WrestleMania 22, when Edge speared Mick Foley, who had hidden a bunch of barbed wires underneath the shirt.

#1 John Cena defeats Batista using a devious, but smart scheme

At WrestleMania 26, John Cena defeated Batista to win back the WWE Title. The next PPV, Extreme Rules, saw The Animal challenge Cena in a rematch, this time under Last Man Standing rules.

The two megastars beat the tar out of each other for the next 20 minutes, with neither of them willing to give up. Suddenly, Cena thought of something as Batista was struggling to stand near a turnbuckle.

Cena went outside the ring, found a pack of duct tape, and approached Batista. He proceeded to grab hold of Batista’s legs, and bound them with the duct tape, as they were crossed between the turnbuckle post. The referee counted to 10, as Batista failed to remove the tape. An incredibly smart trick on Cena’s part helped him retain his WWE Title
