He Wanted to P**s Him Off’: The Undertaker’s Reaction to 44-Year-Old AEW Wrestler Wanting to Hijack His Character
The Undertaker is not just a character in the world of professional wrestling. Instead, the legendary WWE superstar is more than emotion for all wrestling fans.
Mark Calaway, the man behind The Undertaker, maintained the kayfabe of the character for more than 30 years. He made people believe The Phenom is actually a supernatural being in WWE.
Matt Hardy said, “I remember that Taker shot that down pretty quickly. I do remember that Jeff pitched that. Jeff said that you know what if I could come out like the old Undertaker hat and cat would come out like the entrance and not, get down and do the pose when Taker’s in the ring like mocking him and pi** him off and set up this match later down the road.”
He added, “Taker was very protective of his character and of his work and how he was utilized. So I can see that, if you would have asked me you think Taker would be cool someone coming out dress up like the old version, the original version of The Undertaker? I would say no, just because he was very very protective of his character.”
Calaway had changed himself from The Original Undertaker to The American Badass to get along with the crowd. He never wanted to go back to being the original version of the character.
Taker wanted to upgrade more and perform in WWE, which he did when The Undertaker returned as ‘The Hybrid’ version. He wrestled like The American Badass and cut promos like the old version.
